FAQ

  • What makes this approach different?

It might sound a little outside the box at first, but it’s not totally woo-woo. It’s practical, evidence-based, and comes by way of real experience. I combine behavior science, biomechanics, and clear communication to help horses and riders work together with less confusion and more clarity. It’s a little tricky to sum it all up at times, but when you see the results they speak for themselves.

  • Is this just for a certain type of rider or discipline?

Not at all. I work with riders from all backgrounds and experience levels. Show ring regulars, casual trail riders, and everything in between. No matter what you do with your horse, learning how to work with their body and brain sets you up for clearer communication, better performance, and a more enjoyable partnership.

  • Is this just positive reinforcement training?

Positive reinforcement and liberty work are a big part of what I do, because both the science and the results are hard to ignore. I know it can feel a little unfamiliar (or even off-putting) if you’ve been told that treat training causes pushy behavior or doesn’t “work” on certain horses. I’ve heard it (and believed it) all too. But when used well, R+ is one of the most effective ways I’ve found to teach and build connection with clear structure, intention, and great results.

That said, it’s just one piece of a much bigger picture. I also focus on posture, patterns, environment, and overall well-being. The goal isn’t to limit folks to one method. It’s to understand what your horse needs, and give you tools that help you get there together.

  • Do you work with horses that have issues - physical or behavioral?

Yes. Many of the horses I work with are dealing with things like anxiety, tension, or resistance that doesn’t always have a clear cause. Mystery lameness is a common one, especially when nothing shows up on scans, but something still feels off.

We take the time to look at the whole picture and go at the horse’s pace, making sure both horse and rider feel supported throughout the process. Sometimes it just takes a few simple changes. Other times, it’s more complex and takes time to peel back the layers. Either way, the goal is to solve the problem at the source so the progress actually lasts.

  • I already work with a trainer. Can I still work with you too?

Absolutely. I work with many clients who already have a trainer or program they enjoy. What I offer isn’t meant to replace that - it’s meant to complement it. Sometimes just seeing things from a slightly different angle can help everything click into place.

That said, this work can absolutely stand on its own too. Whether you’re looking to fill in some gaps, explore a new approach, or dive deeper into a specific challenge, we can tailor it to fit your needs.

  • What kind of results can I expect?

Some of them are honestly hard to believe until you see it for yourself. I’ve worked with shut-down horses who now seek out connection and love engaging. Anxious, high-strung types who now head down the trail bareback and bridleless like it’s no big deal.

Clients are often amazed. And it’s not always the big, dramatic moments that land the hardest. Sometimes it’s a small shift, like a behavior that’s been there for years, just gone. Or seeing the horse starting to soften where there used to be tension.

The results can feel like magic, but they’re grounded in real science and a deep respect for the horse. When it clicks, it really clicks. And it lasts.

  • What's the difference between a Clinic and a Workshop?

Workshops are single-day, education-focused events - usually held indoors - with a mix of demos, discussion, and unmounted learning. Clinics are multi-day, hands-on experiences with the option to bring a horse and participate in guided sessions.

  • What kind of topics are covered at Clinics or Workshops?

It depends on the event, but some common themes include equine behavior, biomechanics, posture, communication, liberty work, positive reinforcement, and problem-solving all aimed at building a better relationship and more sustainable progress.

  • What if I feel like I’m not experienced enough- or too experienced - for this kind of work?

This work meets you where you are. New riders get a clear, thoughtful foundation from the start. Experienced riders are just as welcome, and often find missing links they didn’t know they were looking for. Whether it’s a breakthrough with a specific horse or a clearer way to apply what you already know, this work adds depth, precision, and enhances the partnership you’ve worked hard to build.
